Grief Counseling

Grief is a term that is often associated with death; however, it can encompass any type of loss. Grief is a universal phenomenon that we experience when we lose something dear to us: a loved one, a relationship, a job, an ability, our health, a dream, etc. While we all experience grief at one point or another in our lives, its impact can vary drastically from person to person. Grief is a difficult process that can feel lighter in the presence of someone compassionate. In the past, grief was viewed from a therapeutic standpoint as something we move through and then leave behind. However, now it is viewed more as something we carry with us, but that can begin to feel lighter over time. Grief counseling focuses on how to manage the thoughts and feelings accompanying grief in a way that can make them more bearable and feel lighter.
