Katie Windham is a therapist and co-owner of Willow Wellness, LLC. She has over 10 years of licensed experience in the field of counseling psychology and over 15 years of experience supporting individuals and families in a variety of settings. Katie has spent these years working with adults, adolescents, children, and families with a broad range of psychological and relational concerns at various levels of care including Residential, Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and Outpatient. She has extensive experience in the treatment of eating disorders, anxiety/mood disorders, substance abuse/other addictive processes, adolescent issues, anger management, relationship and parenting concerns and unresolved grief and trauma.

Mrs. Windham believes that therapy is a collaborative process during which clients may gain support, develop self-awareness, and build skills and compassion to live a more balanced and fulfilling life. Her intention is to provide a warm and safe environment where clients can explore how past experiences and current stressors impact thoughts, feelings, behaviors and relationships. Ultimately, the development of healthy boundaries, communication, and coping lead to connection, healing, and growth. Katie’s approach to therapy integrates several treatment modalities to allow for a more holistic perspective on client’s presenting concerns and path to wellness. Katie addresses client concerns that range from challenges with developmental transitions occurring across the life-span and family/relational concerns, to anxiety, depression, self-injury, and eating disorder recovery. She believes that every person arrives in therapy with their own set of strengths which she will help clients build upon. In addition to being collaborative and non-judgmental, Katie’s approach is warm yet direct and open. Her approach helps clients set goals, build skills, and find relief.

Katie’s approach is rooted in evidence-based practices (Cognitive behavioral therapy, Dialectic Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing) and is artfully integrated with family systems, interpersonal, solution-focused, and existential perspectives. Katie believes that evidence-based approaches are an essential foundation to any therapeutic process because they have been rigorously studied for efficacy; they provide a goal-oriented healing process; and they provide clients with concrete skills for hope and recovery.

One of Katie’s personal values is to continue to grow as an individual both in her personal and professional life. One of the ways she is currently facilitating her own growth is by studying the Gottman Method of couples’ therapy to integrate into the work she does with couples and families. Her current work is based in family systems and Emotion Focused Couples Therapy, and Levels 1, 2, and 3 of the Gottman Method. Katie spends much of her continued education focusing on couples, families, teenagers, and eating disorder recovery. She is holistic and progressive in her treatment approach and will continue to push forward as the field of psychology and counseling grow and incorporate evidence for how healing and growth can best be supported in treatment!

Katie’s diverse work experience afforded her the opportunity to hone her clinical expertise. She began her clinical work in a residential treatment setting for women with eating disorders, chemical dependency, and unresolved trauma. While working in this setting she developed and facilitated a trauma group, and assisted many women and families to begin their journey to recovery. Katie spent 10 years in private practice prior to opening Willow Wellness with her business partners; during this time, she also provided intensive out-patient and aftercare services for adults and adolescents in early recovery from eating disorders, chemical dependency, and sexual compulsivity. She earned a B.S. from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, GA, and a M.S. in Counseling Psychology from a CACREP-Accredited program at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. Mrs. Windham is a Nationally Certified Counselor and maintains independent licenses (LPC) in both North Carolina and Mississippi.
